The stakes are high--the wireless Internet is growing
fast and the time to enter is now. Device usage is going to grow exponentially
over the next few years. Analysts estimate that smart phones are expected to have
48 million users worldwide by 2002 and 204 million by 2005. The potential revenue
in this market is equally as great--U.S. consumers spent $7.3 billion on personal
digital devices in 1999, ranging from digital cell phones and smart phones to
PDAs and portable computers in MP3 players and digital cameras. This course is intended for marketing, business development, and technical personnel responsible for the strategic direction and/or implementation of online advertising, e-commerce Web sites, or e-business solutions, who look at the wireless Internet as an opportunity to extend their customer reach and service. The course does not provide an in-depth technology view or teach WAP or other programming languages. Key course topics are
The instructor's experience as an Internet/Wireless forerunner allows for the focus of the class on this exploding market to be from a business perspective, rather than a technical one. The instructor believes that organizations can and must, for competitive reasons, create an Internet commerce strategy that generates real value--where value can be measured as revenue, cost savings, customer loyalty, competitive advantage, and more. OBJECTIVE Give you a strong foundation of what the Wireless Internet is and resources you can explore to increase your knowledge of this area. ACTIVITIES Interactive discussion drawing both positive and negative examples from those in attendance. A review of the week's reading material, and guest speaker presentation on occasion by an expert in the emerging wireless Internet space. In several of the sessions the participants work in small groups and make short presentations. PREREQUISITES At least 3 years of business experience, significant access to the Web for both e-mail and surfing, as well as a basic understanding of today's e-commerce practices and a general awareness of mobile devices and the Internet.
