"Content is king," but what makes
effective, compelling content? In this course you learn to select, shape
and present content that fulfills your site's goals and drives traffic. Examine
content strategy, development and navigation. Discover how implementation issues
affect planning, creative methods for leveraging existing content, linking and
cross-linking effectively and what to do to maintain fresh, compelling content
after the launch. Learn about systems for efficient content delivery and storage, maintaining style, assessing the content's success and adapting to changing markets. Following the content cycle from concept to creation, delivery, archiving and assessing success, you discover what makes content compelling, easy for users to navigate and easy for Web teams to work with. This is a management class. Technologies will be considered and presented conceptually for effective management understanding. Upon completion of this course, you will know how to approach content strategically. Topics include:
Activities include exploring effective, compelling content through case studies and discussion, student projects (planning and creating content to address the specific goals of prototypical e-commerce site), in-class workshop-style critique of projects. Reading materials: the instructor will provide reading materials. Prerequisites: basic knowledge of Internet technologies is helpful but hands-on experience is not required. |
