How to Raise Money from the Professional Investment Community for Your E-Commerce Business (CTGE 443K)

Address the process of fundraising from various perspectives of the professional investment community. The instructor brings in guest speakers from venture capital, legal, investment banking, angel and entrepreneurial sectors to give you their perspectives. Increase your level of confidence and competence in raising funds from the professional investment community.

Special note: this course focuses exclusively on attracting financing from professional sources. Participants interested in funding businesses that by their scale or nature are not attractive to professional investors may find that this course does not meet their expectations. Topics include:

  • Preparing an effective investor presentation
  • Developing an investment sourcing strategy
  • Mounting and executing a successful road show
  • Managing the due diligence process
  • Structuring a fair deal
  • Positioning your company for further rounds of investment and/or an exit strategy

Activities include a series of individual and group exercises that include goal setting, investor-sourcing research, preparation of an investor presentation on PowerPoint and re-editing existing business plans where appropriate. Written tests are given on various aspects of the course.

Reading materials: books on the funding process, Web and paper research resources for investment sourcing, samples of legal documents used at various stages in obtaining funding.
