E-Commerce Fulfillment and Distribution: Behind the Buy Button (new course - elective) (CTGE 443T)

Industry Analysts and Financial Analysts alike have been increasingly concerned with the ability of e-commerce sites to carry the buying experience through the entire product delivery process. This course will help you use the Internet and e-commerce for competitive advantage by thinking through issues beyond the Buy Button. In it, we will cover product delivery and related opportunities for brand reinforcement, customer satisfaction and cost containment.

E-Commerce Fulfillment and Distribution is designed to be useful for e-commerce practitioners from a variety of functional areas – marketing, finance, business development, software development and operations.  You will emerge with an understanding of the Internet Distribution Model, of the key trends in the marketplace, and of the vendors providing solutions to address challenges in e-commerce fulfillment. Topics include:

  • What is the Internet Distribution Model?
  • What are the challenges in E-Commerce Fulfillment?
  • What are the components of a complete back-office solution?
  • What have different E-Commerce companies done to address these challenges?
  • What are some key trends in the market?
  • Competitive positioning of the key vendors
  • Changes in the solutions used by E-Commerce companies over the years

Activities:  In the class and outside the class group exercises and presentations.

Reading Materials: Hand-outs will be provided by the instructor including links to specific Web sites of interest and references to specific published articles or books.
