Forming and managing communities have been
basic human endeavors since the dawn of civilization. The Web is just a new mechanism
that communities can use. For many reasons, the Web is a much more powerful tool
than anything communities previously had and can greatly leverage the activities
of a community. This course focuses on the business aspects of online communities, how they add value, generate revenues and create "stickiness" for web sites. There are five main topics:
Activities: This course is structured around several exercises (both group & individual), interactive discussions, expert guest speakers, and homework assignments. Prerequisites: Knowledge and/or experience in Internet business, access to the web for research and projects, email, and interest in online communities. Course Materials: The class will use several types of course materials including articles, presentations, exercise work sheets and online content. |
