an E-Commerce Storefront (CTGE 445L:

In this class, you will compare a variety of
commerce-enabled Web sites to gain insight into what it takes to produce a successful
e-commerce site. You will examine the pros and cons of the different tools available
to create an e-commerce site and identify how access to technology and resources
ultimately impact the final product. In this two-day lab class, you will:
- Identify types of businesses most likely to succeed online
and review the requirements for success in creating an e-commerce site
- Review
different ways an e-commerce site can be used to develop and enhance customer
relationships to encourage repeat business and brand loyalty
- Examine
the range of costs associated with developing an e-commerce site and how to evaluate
different hosting options
- Evaluate and critique
different shopping cart and online catalog implementations/methodologies
- Review and discuss differences between implementing an e-commerce
site with an off-the-shelf software package vs. more accessible and affordable
freeware CGI solutions
- Identify security and payment
processing issues involved in developing a site (SSL,
